Valentine's day at Screw's Spa.
February 14, 2008
What can I say that hasn't been said a thousand times before - Dominica diving is absolutely stellar. Go now!
Today we have a cold and windy ride to a site called Dingle Dangle (or something that sounds kind of like that) where we see seahorses galore, a HUGE turtle feeding at the bottom, morays here, morays there, all punctuated by dozens of the biggest puffer fish I have ever seen. Spectacular.
The second dive is Champagne, featuring natural bubbles and warm spots, but rather dead looking coral. Yet ANOTHER seahorse, plus 5 freakish squids, which I have never even seen before. Again we were surrounded by schooling fish... it was like diving in a well stocked aquarium.
After a fantastic lunch at Cocorico, we board a van with one other couple. Our mission is to enjoy the natural warmth and wonders of Screw's Spa. The spa is a series of man-made hot tubs fed from geothermally heated water, piped down from some unseen place in the mountain - awesome! We were assured that the brown color of the water was due to all the minerals, a list of which was posted near the entrance.
Valentine's Day is apparently quite the event in Dominica. Unfortunately we didn't rate a waterfront seat at the Water Front restaurant, but enjoyed our meal near the parking lot nonetheless.
I heart Dominica!
