The first day
February 4, 2008
So on the first day we checked into our hotel dropped off our luggage and imediatley set out for the streets of New Orleans. The first beads were ones my brother wrestled a tree for we didnt want to be the only ones without bead so 4 or 5 trees later we had enough beads for the three of us. Moving on we passed a Captain Morgan promo where of course we posed with the captain and I bought the most expensive shots ever all in the name of a free t-shirt actually my brother bought the shots I just did the ordering and it was 3 t-shirts. We got some Captain beads and we were off again. We found a little convience store/gift shop and of course we had to go in. My friend Dougie caught site of the special Budwiesser cans and bought 3 one for each of us but before he cracked it open he had to check with the local PD about wheather it was leagal or not to drink in the streets to wich the Officer replied dont fight dont get naked and dont pee in the street thats about it everyhing else is okay I quess.
Shortly after buying the beer it ran out we spooted a vendor who was selling drinks that you had to strap around your neck to carry no Im not kidding it actaully cane with a nylon strap we decided we really liked New Orleans. After getting something loaded with alcahol we set out down Burbon street were of course we caught some beads well I did most of the catching My brother and friend found some people to talk to that used to live in Maine they were very nice. After that we decided to go find our parade spot and we found one and then another one and then we met up with the couple from Maine and thier family and they invited us to thier spot. Thier grandmother ( the one Ralph and Dougie were talking to on Burbon St) and myself were running back in fourth to catch all sorts of beads she gave us a float bag and we began to fill them up it was an effort to keep up with her with the bum leg and all the driving I had just done but I managed.
After 2 floats bags fell and 2 parades we set off back for the hotel OMG are beads heavy well Ralph and Dougie thought so I didnt have to carry much luckily. Once we got back up to our room we dumped out our stuff on the floor and after that the room was never the same lol. After running around and driving I was ready for a shower and then BED Dougie just merley passed out on the floor and Ralph turned on the TV we watxhed some TV for awhile untill we both passed out.
New Orleans for Mardi Gras
Upon arriving at the hotel you are first greeted by numerous potted shrubs a lovely fountain in the front courtyard. The valet's are quick to assist with the removal of luggage from your vehicle. Make sure you remove what you need before they take you car to park it as it will be in a lot some distance from the hotel and it is best to leave it there during the Mardi Gras as navigation becomes difficult with so many pedestrians and street closings. Upon check in you walk into the main lobby there is a resturaunt to your right and the reception desk to the left. They do place a 50 deposit on your credit card so make sure to factor that in also there is a valet charge call the hotel for current rates. Ater check in the bellhop took us and our luggage to our room. It was a nice sized room overlooking the front courtyard it was very clean and quiet. The hotel staff was readily available with answers to our questions on how to get where we were going, times, ect. The hotel itself was easily within walking distance of the French Quater, The River Front, and various other New Orleans attractions. Overall the hotel had freindly courteous staff, a convinent location, and about avaerage rates. On our next trip to New Orleans we will book witht he Wyndham Riverfront.
