Me on the hotel's trail to the cliffs

Alas, we had to come home today.

We stretched out the Sea Ranch experience as long as we could without feeling really bad for Shadow, who had been alone for 3 days).  We had the complimentary breakfast at the hotel restaurant (An assorted fruit plate drizzled with honey, a ramekin with toasty coconut bread (I don't even like coconut, and this was great), and the main course: big, fluffy pancakes topped with strawberries and real whipped cream, and a side of thick bacon!  (I told Jesse I would probably faint if someone told me how many calories that breakfast contained.)  What a great way to start the day.

Afterward we packed up and checked out, then took a hike down in front of the hotel to the cliffs.

Incredibly powerful waves
There were giant waves crashing that sounded like thunder sometimes.  I love just watching them and feeling small, realizing that we measly humans can do nothing to control them, and that only One can.  It was so bright (yes, today was sunny!) that it was hard to see, but as we were turning to leave, Jesse spotted two seals in the little cove area next to us.  It was so choppy that I was surprised they would hang out there, but Jesse theorized that maybe the waves brought fish into the cove for them.  One was white, and we got a picture of his little head bobbing.  The other was brown, and he was swimming near the surface.  After a minute, they both disappeared and we couldn't find them again.

We headed back toward home, and the drive was relatively uneventful.

Me on the edge
Once, however, I got us a little off track by missing a turn I was supposed to direct Jesse toward, because I was completely captivated by the gorgeous vineyards to our right!  They went on and on, and after a while Jesse said, "We should have been to the next turn by now, did we miss it?" and then of course I realized that I hadn't been looking for it at all!  But I was glad we missed it, because it was only about 5 minutes out of our way, and we saw so many pretty vineyards!  When we turned around, we found the turn without difficulty.

Shadow was ecstatic to greet us when we arrived at the apartment - we could hear him meowing from inside the door before we even unlocked it!  He purred and rubbed and nuzzled and aqua-catted (when he kneads his paws in mid air it looks like he's swimming, so we call it "aqua-cat") for a good portion of an hour after we got home.  I immediately started uploading our pictures, and fixing some of them that were too dark.

It's good to be home, but Jesse and I both agree - we wish we were back at Sea Ranch, in that wonderful bed, looking out the window at the incredible view.  :)
