shameless in Santiago

wooo... the big big city again!
Santiago is HUGE lying and sprawling lazily (much like me on a sunday morning) between mountains. we took the opportunity to recharge our batteries with a shameless Thai curry meal (we have missed spicy food out here) and shopping (window.) the hostel and/or hostelbookers.com fucked up yet again (really starting to hate hostelbookers.com but that's for another time) so at 10pm we were sent round the corner in barrio bellavista to the "sister" hostel of the one we had actually reserved. ugly feral dirty sister i believe. my arm has been chewed by the bedbugs and the bathroom smelt of sewage but hey we didn't spend too long there.
i don't think we gave santiago much of a chance as we've merely used it for tis amenities. the walk up to cerro san cristobel was good with some great views across the city. oh yes and while we ere up there, shocked at the amount of smog, we realised that a building had caught fire and the streets were choked with fire engines, police, etc. i was even more concerned when we worked out it was quite near the feral hostel and that i had left my dodgy phone charger and two country adapter combination plugged in. fortunately, it wasn't the hostel.
sleeping hasn't been great because of the aforementioned bed bugs and also because bellavista is an uber cool neighbourhood to party in. we being old and over the hill didn't party but lots of people were and a jolly good time they were having too, if the volume at which "say you'll be there" by the spice girls was playing at is any indication.
our time in chile (all too short) is nearly at an end... argentina and then bolivia beckon in the next few days.
