we popped back to bariloche as we were going across the lakes to chile tomorrow from there. we were still a bit heavy in the feet from hiking the day before so did a bit of shopping (my flip flops have died) and thought about wandering down to the beach by lago nahuel huapi. that was a big mistake because it was feral. the hostel el gaucho was sadly booked up so we had to last minute book the HI (Marcopolo Inn.) I'm never quite sure what to make of HIs. on the one hand you know what you're getting, they're pretty organised and they feel safe and secure. this one did a free dinner too (which was really good! not mass catered crap) and the room was great (i think it might be a redone hotel.) the problem with HIs is that they seem to be full of 19 year old gap year students which is great if you're a 19 yr old gap year student but can be a bit hit and miss if you're not. we passed on the sexual tension between the kids in the bar and the pool competition that evening and settled into comfy sofas downstairs in the lounge and watched Michael Mann's Miami Vice. i've realised that my hair has become almost as bad as Colin Farrell's in the film. having said that it's not vastly dissimilar to a lot of argentinian yoofs... oh yeah and that film is bollocks. not a patch on Heat and if the Miami PD are anything like Messrs Farrell and Foxx in real life then the people of Florida are fucked.
