i've finally managed to escape the oh-so-fascinating world of hedge fund finance, and am now decadently indulging my long-suppressed wanderlust with 15 months on the road and around the world... *note: apart from the odd review (generally of something not found in your standard guide book), this is really more just a map of my travels than a proper blog, but if you want more information on anywhere i`ve been or what i`ve been up to, send me a message and i`ll see if i can rustle something up.

Chances are, if you're in Gustrow, you're already familiar with Ernst Barlach.  But even if you don't know anything about him (most famous for his expressive sculptures of wood and bronze, more info on wikipedia here), while you're here or even within daytrip reach (Gustrow is just over 2 hrs on a direct train from Berlin), you should definitely consider visiting 2 museums which contain a large portion of his work:  the Gertrudenkapelle near the Gustrow Altstadt, and the Atelierhaus (his former house & studio) about 2 km outside of town.  In addition, one of his most famous works, the hanging statue of a pensive angel (entitled Der Schwebende, which loosely translates to English as 'the floating one'), is located in the Gustrower Dom & is visible for free.
