Bergen is Norways second city (and first if it's about rainfall!), situated near the North sea, so blessed with a mild sea climate. It's an old hanseatic city, which is best witnessed by the Bryggen area with the wooden houses. One of them is the unicorn, a restaurant where I had a great dinner. Life is expensive in Norway, so bring along your credit card.
Bergenhus is the fortification at the entrance of the old port, which is best be viewed from the Floi mountain. You can go up Floyen by the Floibanen, a kind of train. I went back down walking in a beautiful forest with nice views down the harbour and city center.
Just outside the city center and easily reached by bus is the typical Norwegian stave church of Fantoft. In Troldhaugen, a bit further south of Bergen, is the house of the famous composer Edvard Krieg. It's beautiful situated on a fjord. You can still see his piano in his small lake house.
If you have only a few days in Bergen and you want to see more of Norway, you have to do the long day trip "Norway in a nutshell". This can be done not only from Bergen, but also from Oslo. It treats you on a bus drive to Gudvangen on the end of a fjord, a ferry trip through two arms of the Sognefjord and a spectacular train ride with the Flamsbana up in the mountains. What a great day this was!
