Entrance to the museum
I got up at around 9am on Friday and 
packed up my stuff. I checked out
and dumped my luggage at reception
as I didn’t need it in Sinsheim. My
car was still there which was a good
sign, I got in and started driving
towards a town called Hockenheim as I
knew it was on the way to Sinsheim.
When I got to Hockenheim I had 2
choices to Sinsheim, one was using the
autobahn and the other was a scenic
route. I chose the scenic route for 2
very good reasons, first it would be a nicer view and secondly the day before
when using the autobahn I ended up near France and I didn’t want to repeat
that again.

I got to Sinsheim after about 40 minutes but the Concorde was no
where to be seen, the 747 could be seen from km away in Speyer.
I ended up having to drive through
Sinsheim and the next 2 towns before
coming to the autobahn and a sign
saying Sinsheim and a funny word
after it. I followed this road and
then from across a field I saw the
Concorde.

This museum wasn’t as nice as the
sister one in Speyer, but was still
very nice. The first place I went to
when I got through the gates was the
Tupolev 144 or as I have said in all
my photos Concordski. The plane is
on pillars and at a nice angle like
it looks at climb during flight, this had a very funny effect as there were
loads of fat Americans on board. Some of the Americans looked and sounded like
they were going to drop dead after only 15 meters up.

I had already been at
the flight deck a good 5 minutes before the first one struggled up there.
I took my time having a look at all
the components and the flight deck
in detail, I was even discussing
the plane with a german guy when
the yank arrived. We were looking
at the seriously dodgy wiring and
he said he found it amazing that
this thing could fly, I said yeah
that’s the reason so many of these
things crashed and he walked away
shaking his head laughing.

As I was walking back down I noticed
the fat men who barely survived the
hike just had a quick glanced and started
to walk back, I thought what is the point in nearly dieing for 5 second look?

The Concorde was definitely a nicer aircraft, except the cabin was tiny and I
think it was definitely not somewhere you would like to be on a long flight.

Another interesting thing was near the flight deck they had a full cabin
layout and the aisle on the plane was about half the width of the ones on
aircraft today.
Other aircraft I went into was a
junkers cargo plane, a dc 3, a
Vickers viscount and an Illyusion 14.
After I had been in all these planes
I grabbed some food and a nice drink
as I hadn’t eaten yet that day.
After lunch I checked out all the
indoor exhibitions, these included
loads of cars, a massive formula 1
section with at least 12 different
cars and my favorite section the ww2
area. Sinsheim has a massive
collection of ww2 stuff from the
main 4 ww2 countries and I thought
it was cool seeing the Sherman tank
(yank) next to a T34 (Russian) and a panzer (German). In the walkway they
had these 2 massive shells that one of the german tanks fired.

They were
both bigger than me but the 2nd one was 1.5 times taller than me, not
something you would want to have aiming for you,

After leaving the museum I went on the autobahn 6 back to Speyer, this was
definitely faster and I got back
to Speyer in about 20-25 minutes.
When I got back to my hotel in Speyer
I thought I had better call my
airport hotel in Frankfurt and get
directions from the autobahn 5 so
I wouldn’t get lost. The first question
I asked is whether she spoke English
and she said she did. I told her I was
100km south in a town called speyer
and I needed directions from the
autobahn to the hotel. She kept on
asking me for my flight number into
Frankfurt, I tried explaining that I
drove but she clearly didn’t understand
English as she asked me for my flight
number again 5 more times.

Getting no
where I explained in bad german my situation and I got directions straight
away that were perfect.

The drive back to Frankfurt was a bit scary at times as twice while I was going
at high speed I had a truck decide to get into my lane while I was still in it.
The first time I managed to swerve into
the left lane and not get killed by the
Mercedes coming at an even higher speed
than me. The 2nd time was at a
roadworks (probably should not have
been going fast, but everyone else was
so I did to), the lanes were getting a
bit narrower and a truck again decided
he would go in my lane while I was
next to him. First he pushed me right
up against the guard rail and then he
decided that wasn’t good enough so he
went even more, I slammed on the
breaks and he went in front of me.

After those 2 incidents I was happy to get off the autobahn and back onto
normal roads for a bit.

When I got to my hotel I had to park my car in a massive multilevel car park
that had the weirdest numbering system I have seen, it didn’t make any sense.

I ended up taking a photo of my parking
spot to help me remember later. I
checked in at about 6pm which left me
2 hours to get the car back to the
airport, the reception staff were kind
enough to draw me a mud map and I
managed to find it no probs. They
checked over the car and seemed happy
with its condition (otherwise it costs
750 euros + damages). I really enjoyed
driving around germany but was happy
to hand over the keys at the same time.

I took the shuttle bus from the airport back to the hotel which was handy. At
thehotel I grabbed some food at the restaurant that was really expensive, it
cost me 20 Euros (35 AUD) for a pizza and a beer.

The pizza was massive and
there was no way I could eat it all.

When I finally got to my room at about 9pm I thought I would wash a few things,
normally I put my stuff out in the sun to dry, but since it was getting dark I
did something stupid.
I placed my newly washed underpants on
a light to help them dry for use
tomorrow. Unfortunately they caught
fire and the room filled with smoke
(not my finest hour), luckily the smoke
detector failed to go off as that would
have really sucked. I mean imagine
trying to explain to thousands of
people they were evacuated due to a
fire caused by drying clothes. I opened
up the window and put the aircon on
full and the smoke cleared.
