Day One: The Middle Flight

I went to the World Universities Debating Championships at Assumption University in Thailand. This was probably the most exciting thing that has ever happened to me in my life, and helped me get over a lot of my fears and anxieties with international travel.

Day One: The Middle Flight

35,000 feet above water and hugging the Alaskan coastline, I am on the longest flight of my life. I slept for a bit, but it's hard to really get satisfied in this tin can. We're going to the future! We're crossing the International Dateline on this flight, and we all know it's tomorrow in Japan.

We're not even halfway complete on this flight. Chris has been asleep pretty much the whole time. He sucks.

I suppose I should utilize this abundance of do-nothing time and read since, well, we're on our way to a tournament and all.

Approximately 9:45 am, Japan time (from what I could tell from the screens)

Day One: Departure

I'm on a plane to Seattle. Maybe it's the sleep deprivation, but I feel a strange, unexpected optimism. Even tried, we all seem to be in high spirits. I want to get some food at SeaTac, and then some Unisom so I can sleep all the way to Japan. I'm really, really ready to sleep,a nd maybe the drugs will make it so I actually stay asleep (which is more of the problem, lately it seems, than falling asleep itself).

Approximately 8 am, PST
