Mazamet
May 13, 2007
Two months before the village was going to have its most glorious day in history I passed Mazamet. That time Mazamet hosted the start of the first mountain stage in the Pyrenees during the Tour de France 2007. In fact, and I was not realising it then, I had seen most of that stage during my France 2007 trip, including the later winner!
There's not much to say about Mazamet. Okay, it was once a little well known because of its cloth industry, but moreover it's its situation, which probably makes it a bit attractive. Mazamet is a good starting point for visiting the Montagne Noire, a separate massif of the highlands of Haut Languedoc. The massif forms an isolated wilderness with as highest peak the Pic de Noire.
