Hirado, Japan
September 1, 2007
Small city in southern Japan. Has a small castle overlooking the bay. The city was a central trading stop between China/Asia and Japan. In the 1500's this city was one of the richest because of all the tradeing involved. One of the first Portugese missionaries set up a church here. We also went to one of the Shogun's houses where we participated in a traditional Japanese tea ceremony. Just outside the city is the grave/memorial to one of the first Europeans to live in Japan. His life is portrayed in the movie Shogun.
