Trip to northern emirates
Ras Al Khaimah is known as the northern part of UAE (literally the name means top of the tent), or normally the name is shortened to RAK. It is located on the tip of Persian gulf, adjacent to Musandam - Oman teritorry.
RAK development is not as fast and impressive as Dubai or Abu Dhabi has, it is known as instrial part of UAE with major contribution of cement factory and ceramics industry. It also has free zome port and its own airport. At the moment lots of development around the city, from the new malls and markets, some shops and some road constructions.
The driving from Abu Dhabi will take around 4-5 hours, depending on the speed of the car and how lucky you can escape the only road connecting Sharjah - Dubai (the notorious traffic jam point, since a lot of people commute from Sharjah - Dubai), as other emirates, the road conditions are good. The air in RAK was dustry due to the factories and the work of cutting down some mountains and hills.
This part of UAE has more land structure of rock mountains and hills, to compare with the flat part of Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
Tourist normally come to RAK, either on their way to Musandam, or stop here for some water activities in the hotels.
