I know why she sleeps...

I woke up early this morning to begin a 2 hour trek to El Valle (de Anton), two hours somewhat north of Panama City. There are quite a few attractions in Valle, of which arguably best know is La India Dormida (the sleeping indian).
I first stopped at the zoo in Valle, which was full of beautiful plants, flowers, and animals (see pictures below). I was lucky enough to have run into a local teen ager that offered to act as my guide of La India.
We began the near 3 hour hike; me with much anticipation. About 20 minutes into the hike, I was beat and was hoping not to have to turn back. After 1.5 hours of resting everal several hundred meters, I made it to the top!!! 1700 meters above sea level.
After La India, I make my way to the thermal baths in Valle. Although small, they are quite neat and remind me of a much smaller verision of Banos de Panticosa which I visited in 1997 in the north of Spain at the foothills of the Pyronees.
Interesting to note, Valle is located in the middle of a volcano (inactive), which you can see from the pictures below.
After the two hour drive back, I stopped at the beach to what has become a favorite eatery of mine, VistaMar, and enjoyed shrimp and garlic. A pleasant end to a full day.
I am beat, and going to turn in early tonight. After making that hike, know I know why La India is sleeping! :)
