This Saturday, Robin (Robin is the American Red Cross delegate that was here last year work as Finance Officer and has returned to help out the unit) and I decided to break from the city and head off to Isla Grande (2.5 hours from Panama City on the Atlanic side). I was fortunate and had been researching dive centers here in Panama and was lucky to find Loic, a French national who recently relocated to Panama to be with him Family, and is opening a dive center here.
We rented the dive equiptment (which we picked up Friday in Panama City before we left for the Island on Saturday) and then I took a 1 hour refresher course, since I havent dove in 2 years. GREAT water and unreal reef!
We stayed in a cute lodge and the food was terrific. Cant get enough seafood!
The Island also has beautiful Christian shrines throughout, with the most famous being a black Jesus water statue (which is said to be more than 300 years old)
On the way back to Panama City on Sunday, we stopped through Portobello, where the Fort San Jeronimo is located, along with a famous local church which showcases a black Jesus.
Back to the city Sunday night (missing the silence of the Ocean) :)
