USS Wisconsin permanently docked in Norfolk, VA

Wow - what an opportunity!  My husband and I along with our daughter, son-in-law, and several other family members were present at a very impressive Navy Retirement ceremony of our niece and nephew (husband and wife).  This couple met during the first year of enlistment.  A special chemistry was felt, and the rest, as they say, is history.  They have been together for the 20 years of their service to America in the United States Navy.  On this day, both were moving on to retirement with new challenges awaiting them.

The ceremony took place on the USS Wisconsin permanently docked in Norfolk, Virginia.  Most people attending were friends and co-workers of the couple from different bases where they have been stationed.

We represented a large number of Sue's family from Ohio and Colorado.  We had flown in via Skybus Airlines (highly recommended).  The ceremony was held in the sunshine on deck so we were all thankful for no rain.

Many special people in their military service took part in the ceremony.  There were friends who presented the flags, friends who spoke and participated in the presentations and commendations, and family, including the couple's daughters, who helped to make this a special ceremony memorable.  All in all, the ceremony lasted about an hour, and finally even their daughters added their own special words, NO MORE DUTY!  The family had perservered through either Mom or Dad taking their tour away from home while the one was left behind.  They did experience living in many places, and made friends all over the globe.

Both have found employment and are happily living as a family in familiar surroundings in the Virginia Beach area.  Here are some pictures taken before, during, and after the ceremony!  Enjoy!
