This was a two week excursion with the geography class (Senegal - problems of a developing country at the Sahel). We were 26 students and two academics. It was an absolutely unique experience!

Touba - The Great Mosque

Touba is a special city. The city constitutes an administratively autonoumous zone with special legal status within Senegal. For the mourides it's the holy city. They have the absolute control over Touba. It's forbidden to consume alcohol and tobacco, to play music and to dance.
We wanted to visit the Great Mosque. For that we had to veil us. It was horrible with this temperatures! The drapery was so thick! Finally we had to remove our shoes and than we could enter the mosque. Some parts of the mosque were outside. The ground was so hot that our feet nearly burnt. I can't describe the feeling to doff the cloths. Awesome!

In the mosque we saw kids begging, that was hard. Some of them had just one leg... The problem is, if you give them some money it's so hard to dispose of the kids. So it's better to keep the money. If you want to give something it's better to collect books and pencils. The kids take as much as pleasure in that things.
