Lac Rose
September 27, 2006
Lac Rose is the final station of the famous Rallye Dakar. The name is because of the color of the water. They told us you just can see the pink color if the sun is shining. The sun was shining, but the lake didn't really seemed to be pink. I don't know why.
All over the lake you can see small salt hills. The lac rose is very saline (about 400g per liter), so you could swim on the water like on the Dead Sea. The small lake isn't very deep and is directely located at the sea - just a dune separates them. The people that work there have a lot of problems with their skin because of the salt. So you see - too much salt isn't healthy anymore.
At the lake you can find tons of souvenir stands with necklaces, animal figures, djembes and other instruments, pictures and so on.
We ate at a restaurant close to the lac rose (I can't remeber the name). The food was good. This was the first time I could taste the special green tea of Senegal. They serve it in a very small glass. It's a quite strong tea - I think it's called ataya. I liked it.
