Joining Janene and her two good friends Kara and Jon to celebrate her 30th birthday in Guatemala and Belize. Guatemala was super adventurous and Belize was beautiful.

Rebuilding the pier

Today I woke up late. Yesterday was a super long and adventurous day. We decide to take it easy and relax. After all, we are in the islands.

We wake up and throw on our bikini's and coverups and head down to the main lobby of our condo. Now that it is daytime, we are able to really check this place out. The storm from the day before has subsided, and the air is calm and warm. There are palm leaves scattered about on the lonely beach and there is no one in the water. The pier for the hotel is being rebuilt after the last hurricane blew through here. We can hear the workman nailing the planks together.

Our condo is toward the back of the property and is situated like a stilted two-story bungalow. The entire complex is painted white with green trim.

Oh yeah, give this girl a drink!
A lone iguana slowly crawls out from underneath our condo and looks like a statue sunning himself on the sand.

We go to the restaurant in the lobby to catch breakfast. Omlete's and O.J.-Yum. Since it is a relaxy day, Janene and I march out to the pool, detirmined to return to Cali with a fabulous tan in the middle of October. I bring a book and when it gets too hot we lay in the shallow portion of the pool and read or swim around slowly. There are a couple of other guests out at the pool as well and being in the water is the only way to keep the mosquitoes at bay. We eat when we are hungry and sip on sweet cocktails when we are feeling thirsty.

After lounging around for the day and a casual dinner at the condo restaurant we all meet up at the condo and lounge around. We girls have been eaten alive with mosquitoes and gnats. Jon only has one bite. It seems that all the DEET in the world will not help us keep the mosquitoes away. We are too sweet for them. We three girls argue about the best home remedy for mosquitoe bites while Jon chuckles at us as he is writing in his journal. What is he writing about, anyways?

Kara tells us that salt will dry out the bites and help and we are willing to try anything. So we spend the rest of the evening rubbing the salt onto our bug bites and squealing because it stings a little. Time for bed, relaxy time is over tomorrow!
