Panty-rippa Please!!! Apparently I can drink, but not scuba dive.
So, the whole point of going to the Cayes was to learn how to scuba dive. In our party, Jon was the only one who had gone diving before. When we all decided to do it together, we were super stoked. It has been kind of a divided party. Jon and Kara are a couple and have stuck together like glue doing the couples thing. So, truthfully, they weren't the most adventurous to be with. Janene, my good friend, is super adventurous and up for anything. So she and I really just did our own thing.
So that is why it was so great that we all decided to learn to dive together. So you can imagine how disapointed I was to learn that I couldn't go.
We all went to the Belize Acadamy of Diving (BAD) and signed up the previous day for our first dive in the pool and writen test you must take to get certified.
When we got there, we had to fill out a liability form that asked all of these health questions. So when it asks if "you have had any congestion problems or a cold in the last 7 days".... I lied. Truthfully, I HAD been suffering from a headcold this whole week. I was ok during the day while we were busy, but at night was feeling awful, hacking up lungs and taking ton's of nightime medicine. I figured, "who's gonna know?"Well we get our wetsuits and gear on and get in the pool. We practice breathing and go under. Damn!!! My ears!!! Just swimming in the bottom of the pool in the deep end was killing me. Our dive master helps me try to decompress, and I can't do it. My ears feel like they are going to explode. When she asks if I have lately had a cold, I admitted that I did.
I guess diving affects everyone in a different way and I just couldn't do it.Well now what! I was so mad. I walked back up to the area to pick up my things and return the wetsuit and the divemaster in there says not to worry. They will take me along tomorrow to snorkle with a group tomorrow while my friends dive. I sulk for a minute, and go back to the condo with my head down. Pisser...
Once I get to the condo and realize the sun is out and the mosquitoes are on the down-low, I grab a book, lay out on my hammock and read for a couple of hours while the others finish up thier dive. It was relaxing (although not so exciting) and I felt better after a while. When Janene, Jon and Kara returned from thier dive, we got cleaned up and decided to go back into town for dinner.
If I had to eat one more time at the restaurant in our condo, I thought I would die.We heard about this restaurant called Carumba's and decided to go there. We all got in a little shopping on the way. I bought a Jade bracelet and Janend bought the Jade figure and oversized necklace she had admired the day earlier. In a last minute decision, Jon sweetly buys the black jade necklace that Kara had liked as well.
Carumba's is a killer little restaurant in San Pedro. They have a huge drink list and lots of great seafood choices. While everyone else orders daquiries, I order the Pantyrippa....yeeeooow! Then I order another one, and then a beer. Slightly intoxicated, we make our way back to the water taxi and fly back to the condo.
