A visit to the Mekong Delta

Our next trip from Saigon was to My Tho, a small city on the Mekong River. On our tour were Dean and Ora, an Australian couple who we had met the previous day. After a 2 hour bus ride we arrived and were transferred on to a small boat to cross the Mekong. There are 4 islands on the river, turtle, monkey, dragon and unicorn, important Vietnamese symbols.
Our first stop however was on the mainland at the opposite side of the river, where we went to see how they made coconut candys, which tasted so good that we bought a box. After this we took a smaller boat to another workshop, where we tasted honey tea, fresh from the bees on site. We also handled a python here, which Julia found quite petryfying!
After a spot of lunch on Turtle Island, we took a small row boat down a tiny tributary on Unicorn Island, to a village where we sampled the local fruits and listened to some local music. We caught the boat back across the river and the bus back to Saigon. It was a relaxing day, if nothing memorable.
