Cham Towers

People i met here, who contributed to and improved my trip: Juliana (Russia), Patrick (Canada), Debbie (England), Lucy (England)

We spent our first day in Nha Trang strolling along the sea front and enjoying the baking sunshine. For the first time, it really felt like the weather matched that what i expected from South East Asia. That night we went out to celebrate Debbie's birthday, all be it a day late. We found a really great Bar called 'Why Not' Bar where beers and double spirits with mixers only cost 60 cent/30p so we spent the night in there. Around 1am and after Julia had danced on the bar with an Australian girl, we went to the Sailing Club and stayed there until the early hours.

Giant reclining Buddha at Long Son Pagoda

The following day we set out on a reasonably long walk to the Cham Towers down by the Cai River. Although it was only a small site, it was nonetheless impressive. We followed this up by visiting the Long Son Pagoda, which had a Temple and 2 giant Buddha statues, one sitting and one reclining. The only problem here was the hawkers, one who followed us around lighting incense and then trying to make us pay him, 2 people who said they worked for charity so their postcards cost 100,000 dong instead of 8,000! When we wouldn't buy them we got told to f**k off, very charitable! We also saw a woman bathing a naked handicap child and smacking him round the head several times. It all made it a little bit depressing and to be honest, this was the general effect that the Vietnamese people were having on me.

Our band on the boat cruise!

The next day we took a boat cruise around the islands just off the coastline. Unfortunately we  had a terrible day weather wise, which meant we didn't go swimming or have a floating bar. A highlight of the trip included the crew making up a small band and singing songs from different countries. It was pretty good fun and some crazy Russian woman (not Juliana) got up dancing around like a person possessed! We also visited an Aquarium, which had some pretty nice exhibits of eels, sharks massive fish and turtles, although their living conditions were far too small for my liking.

The following day was much nicer and i left Julia in bed to go on an early morning scuba diving trip. The islands looked much better in the sunshine although due to the time of year, the visibility was only around 5m in the water. This meant it was rather hard to spot the marine life although we did see a couple of cool things including Pufferfish, Porcupine Fish and some decent coral. Stupidly on the boat on the way back to Nha Trang i got sun burnt pretty badly.

We spent one more day in Nha Trang, just generally lazing around, taking a walk along the beach and visiting Why Not Bar at night time. Soon it was time for our stay by the beach to temporarily finish and catch a bus into the mountains, for the cooler climates of Dalat

Yes , only a couple of pints. Weird , Exactly a year ago. I was here for two weeks (with limited time to explore since it was a business trip). But it was many fancy dinners and much good nightlife so guess you cant complain.
