Strange locals and stranger backpackers
People i met here who contributed to, and improved my trip: Mark
(America), Steve (England), Christian (Norway) and for entertaining me
with 'stories' - Steve (England), Russell (Australia)
Lithuania was full of 'interesting people', from the guys who wanted to beat you up, to the girls who wanted your passports! All the other travellers were also rather odd with very strange travel 'stories'..... These ranged from been a Mahjong champion in China, knowing Russian/Morrocan/Latvian mafia, working in a bunker in Iraq, etc etc.
Vilnius is a beautiful city and Trakai castle nearby is well worth a day trip. It was built by the Teutonic Knights 700 years ago and is located in the middle of a lake. This makes the views quite stunning. Other points of interest in Vilnius include walking to the top of the castle tower, for some great Panoramic views of the city. The KGB museum (which is housed in the former KGB building), Three crosses, many churches and cathedrals are also well worth visiting.
Vilnius by night also has some interesting nightclubs with unbelievably bad music! DJs flip between Shakira, to Bryan Adams to 50cent etc, and the locals seem to love this mix and match of music! It all adds to the experience and when the beer only costs a pound, you soon forget what music you are dancing to!
