Arriving in Saigon
The first thing we noticed in Saigon as we stepped off the bus was how crazy the traffic was. We stood for a minute or two waiting for a break in the stream of motorbikes before we darted to safety across the road. In a city of 4 million motorbikes, there very rarely seems any sort of break to cross the road, so we soon figured you just walk and hope for the best!
Our first full day we went out to Cholon to visit some pagodas, which turned out to be small Chinese temples, much to our disappointment. We then spent some time on the back of a motorbike, driving around the city (Julia, the driver and I all on 1 bike!) seeing a few churches and nice buildings.
The following day we went to the Reunification Palace, which for some reason was closed, so we went and saw the Museum of Ho Chi Minh City, which had some impressive army vehicles. Nearby was the pretty Notre Dame Cathedral that we viewed from the outside, before taking a walk in the central district, where there is a market and many department stores. Our main accomplishment was acclimitisation, as temperatures hovered around 38 degrees.
