Me at Ho Chi Minhs Mausoleum

People i met here, who contributed to and improved my trip: Juliana (Russia), Patrick (Canada)

Arriving back from the trip to Halong Bay, we reluctantly moved out of Hanoi Guest House as we had been offered free accomodation in Hanoi Backpackers. The Canadian couple, Breanna and Darcy, whom we met in Yangshuo, had been offered that they or their friends could stay for 3 free nights, due to mixing up their booking over New Year. They had forwarded our details to the hostel and it seemed like a decent way of saving a few dollars.

On Thursday we got up early to go and see Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum, which was quite a similar experience to viewing Mao's, although the people seemed less emotional hear than in Beijing. Afterwards we took a walk around the surrounding complex, visiting the Presedential Palace, the stilt house that he had lived in, seeing the cars he had driven and also a one pillar pagoda.

We grabbed a spot of lunch and after a walk around Hoan Kiem Lake, walked up to West Lake where we saw a pretty neat pagoda. At night we sat on the rooftop of the hostel and had a few beers with a Canadian guy called Patrick and a group of around 8 other people, which ended up with us all going to a bar called Dragonfly until the early hours.

The following day was a lazy one, with no attractions left to see and no will to just walk around! We therefore spent the day playing connect 4 and cards before heading to a barbeque on the hostel roof. Eventually it was time to catch our bus to Ninh Binh, leaving Hanoi behind.
