10/28 Back in the USA Well nothing intervened to keep us in SE Asia so we are home and a bit jet lagged. Will be trying to organize and upload some pictures and finish the Myanmar stuff soon.
The Boat Landing Guesthouse
The Boat Landing Guesthouse in Luang Nam Tha, Laos is another really friendly, comfortable, somewhat upscale location about five miles out of the main “town” of Luang Nam Tha.  The bungalows are Lao style bamboo bungalows with comfy beds and a solar powered shower (meaning there is not always hot water).  Located on the banks of the Luang Nam Tha River in a pretty garden environment, it is run jointly by a Lao national and an American and they have tons of information on the local ethnic tribes, eco-tourism, etc. and undoubtedly the best food we had in Laos.  If you can’t afford to stay here (currently about $25/night) at least make an effort to eat here as the food is really outstanding.

The Boat Landing Restaurant attached to the Boat Landing Guesthouse has undoubtedly, the best food in northern Laos.  They specialize in authentic Lao food and have both a la carte options and several set menus that generally consist of sticky rice, a chili paste (of which they have many and they are all great, some incendiary!), a soup dish, a vegetable dish and a meat dish.  Of course they have great drinks too, including the best beer in South East Asia, Beer Lao as well as some really tasty non-alcoholic drinks like a lime and lemongrass iced drink that was great.  For the more adventurous, they offer lots of local delicacies like water beetles, moth larvae, etc. If you stay here, an excellent breakfast is included too.  This was our favorite place to eat in Laos and we ate here every night we were in Luang Nam Tha!
