Kalwaria Zebrzydowska - Day 9

Kalwaria Zebrzydowska Travel Blog › entry 10 of 15 › view all entries

A two week trip to Scotland and Poland in July 2006. In Scotland, we spent a few days in Edinburgh and a few days in the Highlands on the Isle of Skye. We also found a cheap Sky Europe flight, flew to Krakow and spent a week in Poland.

Kalwaria Zebrzydowska - Day 9

We started off today by taking a tram to Kazimierz and visited a Jewish synagogue and cemetery.  Upon returning to the train station, we walked a bit out of the way, but not too much that we got lost.  At the train station, we boarded the “Papal Train” (http://www.pociag-papieski.pl) to Kalwaria Zebrzydowska and Watowice (birthplace of John Paul II).  We took the train all the way, but realized we had to get right back on otherwise we wouldn’t have time for the UNESCO site, Kalwaria Zebrzydowska: the Mannerist Architectural and Park Landscape Complex and Pilgrimage Park (1999), at Kalwaria Zebrzydowska.  Back at Kalwaria Zebrzydowska, we departed the train and headed up the hill towards the center of town to get our bearings and hopefully find our way to the Passion Marian Sanctuary.  One of 10 UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Poland.  After a few hours there, we returned to the train station and waited for the “Papal Train” back to Krakow.  Walked = 11.57 miles.  Steps = 24,178
