Arrival in Edinburgh - Day 1
July 5, 2006
We departed Minneapolis in the early afternoon of July 4 for an overnight flight thru Newark to Edinburgh. It was about 8 AM when we arrived in Edinburgh and breezed through passport control, baggage claim and customs. After consulting our Rick Steve’s travel book, we found our transportation, bus #100 to Edinburgh’s city center. This took us from the airport to the Waverley Station bus stop in Edinburgh’s Old Town only a few blocks to our hotel, the Old Waverley Hotel on Princes Street, for only a few pounds round trip. We were a few hours early for check-in, but we were able to leave our bags with the concierge and headed out to explore the city. We walked back to the Waverley Bus Station and hopped a city tour bus heading up to Edinburgh Castle. A very impressive castle built on top of an ancient volcano. While at the castle, we decided to confirm our tour for the Highlands at Timberbush Tours which was located just outside the entrance of the castle. After touring the castle, we went back to the hotel and were able to check in for a much needed nap. After our break, we headed back out for dinner and took in a pipe organ recital at St. Giles Cathedral. The organ recital was impressive, but my jet lag was making it tough. I made it thru without falling asleep and later crashed back at the hotel.

Friendly B&B in Edinburgh
Extremely friendly and accomodating owners and staff. Clean and comfortable rooms with strong showers. Great restaurant for dinner and breakfast as well as a cozy bar. Only a short bus ride from Edinburgh's Old Town. If you ask nicely, you might even get to walk their dog. :)
