2nd Day-Rabat, Morocco
February 18, 2008
As I board the bus, excitement beigns to stir within.....new sites and adventures are waiting to be experienced....
no expectations....................just embrace the moment!
Our tour guide(Mohammed)shares with us tidbits of information concerning Rabat (capital of Morocco) and the changing landscapes that we are viewing from our seats.
First,we stop and view the Royal Palace, the ruins of Chellah, and the Hassan Tower. The tour continues to the city of Meknes.
What an exquisite gate that surrounds the city walls! The city is rich in detailed and authentic doors.
Next, we visit the ancient ruins of the Roman City of Volubilis. (If those stones could talk..;-)
The ruins of Volubilis are said to be some of the best preserved Roman remains in the world with over 30 well-preserved mosaics, a forum, a triumphal arch, a basilica and three residential houses. Volubilis was an important granary for the African Roman Empire, exporting olives and cereals all over the Roman world. It was also the meeting point between Berbers and Romans.
Finally, our tour concludes at the exteriors of the nearby Mausoleum of Moulay Idriss.
