Mardi Gras is one of the most colourful days on the Sydney calendar...folk from all over Oz gather and have a gay old time on the streets culminating in a parade which goes from the CBD through towards Bondi.

We have been looking forward to Mardi Gras as wanted to see this party parade for a long time plus it is the day after quitting work and 2 days before my dad comes out to visit us!

Mardi Gras is so so good ad so much fun. We walked to Oxford St from our flat in Darlinghurst with a bag of beers and bought a crate from a bloke making one heck of a profit. We found a little space and took up our spot to watch the parade. The first part of the parade was the Dikes on Bikes, hundreds of very loud motorbikes tearing down the parade route with women of varying age and shape riding their bikes to the cheers of the crowd. It seemed that the larger the woman, the less they wore. Some chose to wear a belt as a top others chose to wear a piercing. Need I say more.

The parade contiued into the night and the amount of colour, vibrance and energy was brilliant! We danced away on our boxes as the various floats came down pumping out music and there were some very eye catching (and eye opening) outfits (or lack of).

A super night and we left about midnight to go find some food, stopping at the Thai restaurant near our flat for some food. The party continued all night and into the next day.
