having a whale of a time

So this is our 2.5 year trip!! One year on the long and bumpy road of South and Central America. Our second year started off with 12 weeks in New Zealand, then we headed to Australia! Eagerly clutching our working holiday visas we stayed in Australia for one year for work and travel. The last leg of our 30-month trip was 3.5 months in SE Asia. (We are home now and oh how we miss travelling!)

First stop on board our cramped mini bus was Puerto Piramides on Peninsula Valdes to see the whales. Worried we were not going to see any, we could not have been more wrong!! We spotted our first whale from the beach and as we boated out into the bay, whales were all around us. The first up-close was a mother and her young white calf, white whales being very rare apparently. We saw lots more but the real treat was a youngster who decided to perform for us. He leapt out of the water about 10 times, which is a heck of a sight considering they are between 10 and 30 tonnes! Most of the pics we got were of splashing water though!! Probably the most memorable bit was when a whale swam under our boat and then back again, giving us very close up detail of him. It was a very captivating experience and we didn't want to come back!!

Next stop was the elephant seals and sea lion colonies. The elephant seals are a bit portly to say the least...

The final stop of our day trippin was to see the penguins. We were lucky enough to get very close to them, just  a few metres to watch them waddle about and pose for the cameras.

Before heading back to Madryn we had a Baño stop where we were lucky enough to spot two armadillos! I never knew they were hairy!

We ended a very memorable day by going to a pub back in Madryn with a 3 English travellers from our trip and proceeded to drink far to much. Was a good laugh though.
