We took the 11am minibus to Muang Sing (2 hours) a tiny one-street kind of town. Our Dutch friends had gone ahead of us on the 8am bus and met us at the bus station, taking us to a very nice little hotel in town. They had already done the homework and had found a local guy who ran trekking trips into the northern hills.
We all gathered at 3pm to meet the local chap and discuss the treks that we were all interested in. The 6 of us, together with an Irish chap who we met in the bar in Luang Nam Tha the night before, settled on a 4-day trek and then bartered the price down to a very reasonable 700,000 kip each. This trek has only been in operation since May 2008 so we figured that not many tourists would have been through here before us.

We met up for dinner that night in the only apparent restaurant in town. We ended up with veg fried rice and noodles for dinner after everything else we ordered was not available. Eggs, chicken, potatoes, spring rolls, salad, etc etc all out of stock. 'Waiting for the restaurant owner to return from China with supplies' we got told.

Packing ready for the trip and an early night followed a few beers, all of us getting rather giddy about our trek into the remote and untouristed north of Laos.
