What mountains?

So this is our 2.5 year trip!! One year on the long and bumpy road of South and Central America. Our second year started off with 12 weeks in New Zealand, then we headed to Australia! Eagerly clutching our working holiday visas we stayed in Australia for one year for work and travel. The last leg of our 30-month trip was 3.5 months in SE Asia. (We are home now and oh how we miss travelling!)

What mountains?

the forecast was sun

We set off on our intended 4-day trek complete with tent and supplies and began our adventure by walking the route to the Cerro Torre campsite. Half way there was a mirador of a fantastic view of the surrounding mountains and glacier except it was so cloudy that we couldn't see any of these mountains. We continued on as the snow began to fall and we reached our campsite, a nice little woodsy number next to the river. Pitched the tent and trekked a bit further to another viewpoint of some more clouds. We don't actually believe there was a mountain there at all, just a ploy to get the tourists to El Chalten.

As we ate our rice cooked on our little pocket rocket stove (it really is as cool as it sounds) the air was getting colder and colder. We ventured to bed wearing everything we took with us as the snow continued to fall. Well it was bloody freezing. Always always believe your sleeping bags when they say 'comfort rating' and don't try to push them into keeping you any warmer than what they say. They do not. We were awake pretty much all night with frozen toes and hypothermia-induced hysteria setting in. We found out the next day that it was -5 so thats nice.
