Arrived in Vientiane, the Laos capital and got a tuk tuk to our hostel. The cool air immediatly hit us after the heat of Malaysia!

Vientiane is a lovely place, and does not feel like a capital city, or even a city for that matter! The pace is slow and relaxed and there isn't very much traffic about for a city. We spent the day walking around, marvelling at temples and monks dressed in their saffron robes. We walked down a dirt track between a school and a temple at one point and watched a family - 2 adults and 3 kids - get onto one moped and drive home! We stopped for great coffee in the very comfortable (but a little bit expensive) Joma's and also enjoyed brekkie here the next day.

The buildings in Vientiane have a beautiful rustic charm about them and the French influence is evident in the architecture, and also in the food on offer - baquettes are a staple of the diet here and are on offer everywhere.
