Kep peppercorns and crab!

So this is our 2.5 year trip!! One year on the long and bumpy road of South and Central America. Our second year started off with 12 weeks in New Zealand, then we headed to Australia! Eagerly clutching our working holiday visas we stayed in Australia for one year for work and travel. The last leg of our 30-month trip was 3.5 months in SE Asia. (We are home now and oh how we miss travelling!)

Kep peppercorns and crab!

Arrived in the very hot little town of Kep on the coast of Cambodia. It took 4.5 hours on the bus along an insanely bumpy road that had us completely off the seat and in mid-air at times. We decided to give Sihanoukville a miss, thinking it would be a bit too Phuket-ty for us. The bus kindly dropped us at the bottom of the dirt track that lead us to our booked accommodation - a wooden hut built on the hillside overlooking the sea. The staff were not very friendly and we got a twin room instead of the double we had booked (managed to eventually change to a double on the last night) but the huts are lovely and so peaceful, especially after the hectic Phnom Penh. We chilled out on the deck of our hut and read our books, taking in the view and soaking up the tranquility. This was how the rest of the day went! We had some good food at the restaurant of our accommodation but it was quite pricey.

On the third night we went to the seafront hut restaurants and ate at the Kimley restaurant (almost at the end on the left), recommended by the French couple that run a jewellry shop. We ordered crab cooked in the local Kep peppercorns, calamari and veggies. The food was absolutely amazing - the crab so fresh and tasty and the peppercorns were fabulous. The calamari was the best we have ever had! Kep is worth the visit for the peace and quiet, the fresh seafood and a visit to Rabbit Island.
