Despite Simon`s poorly tummy, he was determined to see the Isla del Sol so we booked a boat ticket to the beautiful Inca island. Despite the chill in the air, the sun was out in full glory and the sky was clear blue brilliance!
Our boat made its way very slowly across the lake until we arrived on Isla del Sol. We followed the stone steps that led steeply up the mountain and the followed the path that wound its way around the mountain side. The views were just spectacular, with the beautiful deep blue lake, bright sun and snow capped mountains in the distance. Donkeys passed us on the path as we panted our way up in the dizzingly thin air. Locals sold their handmade goods along the path, the usual Bolivian fare of Alpaca-wool jumpers, woolly hats and wooden handicrafts. At the top of the mountain, 2 little boys posed with their llamas for a small fee, which they very eagerly took off passing tourists!!
The scenery was so beautiful as we made our way along the path, and soon we were back down to the water where an Inca building stood overlooking the water. Back onto the boat for another painfully slow journey back, just as Simon`s tummy was starting to play up again. We could have gotten out and swam faster.
