We got picked up by the Scuba Junkies boat from the longhouse thinking we were going to Kapalai today for our last snorkel trip. However, the boss of the company decided he would prefer to dive at Mabul so we went round the other side of the island and snorkelled from the boat just off the jetty where we had spent the last 3 days snorkelling!! Simon 'had a word' and we got the day for free but didn't get to see Kapalai. We had heard it wasn't great for snorkelling so we didn't mind too much.

We snorkelled around the edge of the island, mainly around the wooden stilts of the Mabul resort. Here we saw the usual mass of beautiful fishes and watched the wonders in front of us, really this just does not get dull. The trumpet fish are brilliant! Then we spotted 3 lion fish under the jetty! It was amazing to see these beautiful and dangerous fish.

We got pretty close to one of them, within a metre, and worked hard against the current so we didn't get pushed into the fish! We watched as the lion fish darted at little fish for food. At one point Simon didn't spot the lion fish closest to us and was pointing out another fish to me. The lion fish was within 20cm of his arm!!!

Today is Charla's birthday and Peter very kindly invited us out to dinner with them to celebrate. Back in Semporna at 530pm after our day at Mabul island, we quickly showered, went to the bank and then walked around the corner to the Dragon Inn floating restaurant. Peter ordered dinner for all of us and we had a banquet of chilli prawns, cuttlefish, 3 huge crabs, fresh fish, local veggies and other delights. I was a little shocked when the crabs and fish were brought to the table in a basket dragged across the floor - they were still alive! We had to say if we were happy with the sizes! When the food came it was absolutely delicious and Peter taught us how to eat the crab, cracking it open with the nut crackers provided! After a few beers and a lot of food, we were all pooped after a long day of snorkelling and diving (its a tough life).
