And here it is....NYE 2008 is here already. We spent the day lazing about, sending emails, getting laundry done, the usual really. Then an afternoon kip ahead of our NYE night out!
We thought we would treat ourselves to a massage, which turned out to be a huge mistake. We went in for a neck and shoulder massage for RM25 each and what we thought would be a relaxing half hour of bliss was actually 30 full minutes of excruciating pain. The 2 girls who 'massaged' us clearly had no idea what they were doing and simply attempted to work their fingers into our flesh as hard as humanly possible. Then they started hitting and slapping us, pulling on fingers so hard I thought my finger nails would come out and at several points, I was whimpering in pain.
The evening started off with several G&Ts in the Scuba Junkie bar with Charla and Peter and another couple from Australia. At around 8 we had some dinner of something Malay and spicy and then sat back and enjoyed the music played by the regular band. From about 1030pm, after several more G&Ts and a few free shots of rum or something similar dished out by the bar staff, things were hotting up on the dance floor as the band continued to play some very popular cover songs. By this time everyone in the room was well and truly sloshed, and sweating it out on the dance floor. Lots of locals from the town had joined in the fun by now. Soon the band were playing a funny old mix of tunes from Nirvana to Rhianna! The Nirvana hits were very popular, the dancefloor taken over by moshers (us included), all intent on shouting the lyrics as loud as possible and dancing like complete idiots (us included).
This was how the night progressed until the big countdown and then it was very suddenly 2009!!! After a rather confused attempt at Auld Lang Syne, the music and atmosphere deteriorated rapidly as some of the Scuba Junkie instructors decided to take over the microphone and belt out some terrible singing. The dancefloor swiftly cleared and everyone seemed to leave for some fresh air but this didn't seem to stop the staff trying out their singing. We toddled off to Sipadan Scuba bar to see what was occuring there and on the way round we took some very odd photos.
Back at the Scuba Junkies bar, the party had fizzled out with the exception of some of the staff still thinking they sounded good so we decided to call it a night at 2am.
A funny little night but was very entertaining and we did have a good laugh and danced like complete idiots. Wonder if KK would have been a better idea??
2008 has been absolutely brilliant, what will 2009 have in store for us??!! HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!
