A Chinese temple in Kuching

After a 16 hour overnight bus from Miri, we arrived in the Sarawak city of Kuching. We checked into Hostel 121 and were very happy with our pick. A lovely, new clean hostel, friendly helpful staff and a good location.

We have chosen a bit of a bad time to come to Kuching as it hasn't really stopped raining yet. We were hoping to go to Bako NP but to be honest the continual rain is a bit off putting.

We visited the Kuching museum which was quite interesting, although the animals on display looked rather odd. They looked a little worn with very strange choice of eyes used by the taxidermists. They looked more like 30 year old well-used and abused stuffed toys that you might find in a doctor's waiting lounge. Still the rather impressive life-size walk-through  longhouse that they have constructed upstairs is really good, and the head-hunter info, although a little limited we thought, did display the tribal tattoos and the rather concerning penis piercer. Simon looked rather pale after viewing that interesting instrument along with its graphic picture and explanation notes!

Lots of good cheap places to eat here and places to wonder around, shame about the rain though.
