Are we in the Alps?

So this is our 2.5 year trip!! One year on the long and bumpy road of South and Central America. Our second year started off with 12 weeks in New Zealand, then we headed to Australia! Eagerly clutching our working holiday visas we stayed in Australia for one year for work and travel. The last leg of our 30-month trip was 3.5 months in SE Asia. (We are home now and oh how we miss travelling!)

Are we in the Alps?

After a 32 hour bus journey, which went quite quickly due to the for-once decent films that we got on board, we arrived in the lake-side town of Bariloche. The town is surrounded in snow-capped mountains and the huge Lake Nahuel Huapi and is very picturesque. We were howver wondering if we had fallen asleep for a few days on the bus as Bariloche is very much like an Alpine town, with Saint Bernard dogs everywhere with those little barrels under their necks, chocolate shops on every corner and shops and houses made in the style of a wooden log cabin.

We ended up spending a week in Bariloche, a few days lost to being very lazy and hungover, as we quickly realised we were in a bit of a party town. We stayed in a great hostel owned and run by a Kiwi bloke who has travelled the world. We also did some great horse riding gaucho-style in the mountains in the middle of nowhere, really escaped from everything.
