After brekkie, it was back to the boat for another few hours along the river to reach the start point of the trek to the falls. We arrived at a little hut and from here we began the trek through the jungle up to the lookout. We named one of the German couples Mr and Mrs Stinky on account of the powerful B.O. They were in their 60´s and travelling with a much younger couple, think the Stinkies were the parents of one of them. Anyway, Mr Stinky, in true German style, stripped down to a very minimal pair of red speedos (he got changed at the lodge in full view of everyone - I was unlucky enough to see him in his full glory. ´Shocked´ would describe my facial expression at turning round to see a bare white & saggy arse).
The trek took us over a stepping stone river, through dense jungle and up a winding path until we reached the mirador. As the path went on the roar of the falls grew louder and after about an hour, we got to the mirador. The Falls were just amazing, so huge and high and surrounded in jungle. The setting of the Falls was just beautiful, with huge flat top mountains, dense jungle and patches of cloud and mist covering parts of the Falls.
After a delicious lunch of bbq chicken we went and sat down by the river. A little further up the river, the group of Germans went to have a swim. Once again, we got to see a whole lot more of them than we intended to. The younger German couple stripped off completely to put their swimming gear on (why bother). As we looked round we had a his n hers view and all I can say is that we named the younger couple Arse Crack and Ball Sack. I have to say I think us Brits are far too shy and worried about privacy.
Back in the boat for a few hours along the river back to the lodge for more puppy playing (chewing) and dinner. The second night in the hammocks brought more rain.
The next day we headed back to Canaima and thankfully our plane was waiting for us so no 4-hour wait horah!!
