12 hours in Paris .. As it happends ..
February 18, 2008
I only have exactly 12 hours in Paris.. From the moment the plane lands
until it takes off again.. Such a short time, but I don't wanna stay
inside the hotel room for my first time visit to the most romantic city on earth.
Our hotel is near the airport and taking the train is quite convenient going to the city. Almost an hour ride, I arrived at the St. Michel-Notre Dame RER station, took another train that leads me to Eiffel. But it wasn't easy as it sounds, I'm quite confused by their train system that I have to ask a couple of people to help me get the right train, thank goodness that the customer service of the station speaks excellent english (have a difficult time understanding their accent). When I got to the station that will lead me to the Eiffel Tower, what i did is follow the "looking tourist" kind (those with cameras hanging on their neck, backpacks, holding the maps etc. .).. And yes, it lead me to Eiffel Tower, I soon saw it gleaming in the sky. I can't help wondering what it looks like during spring when all the flowers are blooming, it must really be very beautiful. I look forward seeing it in spring time =D I didn't went up the tower because the line was very long, I don't have enough time, so I'll be back to do it.
After seeing Eiffel, I walked towards the direction of Musee du Louvre, thinking it wasn't far away. I had a nice stroll, seeing more nice structures, passing by the river, enjoying the cool breeze. Taking pictures of everything I see.. Until I realized that Louvre is quite far by foot, I didn't have much time.. So I went to the nearest metro station, passing the University of Paris, Petit Palais and the Grand Palais along the way. I finally arrived in my destination and was looking of the famous structure of the da vinci code.. I couldn't find it, until I realized that I am inside it and need to find the exit to view it from the outside.. I didn't have enough time as well to view the paintings.. As I view the Musee du Louvre from the outside, I accomplished what I came here to do. My 12 hours isn't over yet, but I'm ready to head back to the hotel and rest for a while. Going to the ReR station in Musee d'Orsay is a nice walk and I just can't help but take plenty of pictures! I should have visited this first before going to the Eiffel. As much as i'd like to stay for a while and people watch, i can't because time is running fast. I just have to come here again, early in the morning I guess when all of the tourists are sleeping so i can have a peaceful view of the Louvre.
I thought I mastered the train that will lead me back to the hotel. I was tired so I sleep, it was a long ride anyway, when I woke up I was in the suburbs, I took the wrong train! (that's what I get cause I love sleeping in moving vehicles!).. It was a blessing I guess, I saw the other side of Paris .. I finally got to the right train, arrived in my hotel and was able to take a bubble bath before the flight. Such a short trip to see Paris, the first of the many ..
