The long slow very long bus ride

See This proves I was in Pattaya and at the beach, not on Walking Street.
So when I started my trip I wanted to stay away from riding buses.  I mean an accountant does not want to see an office when on vacation and I try to stay away from buses.  That did not last very long.  Benny and I met at the Skytrain station to head to the bus station for a bus to Pattaya and the beach.  I was expecting a building when I was told we were going to a bus station but really it was just a road with a bunch of buses.  We got there just in time to jump on a bus that was leaving that second.  What great timing.

Problem was I wanted to be on a VIP bus with air con and an express bus.  This was a normal bus that was really cheap but had no bathroom or air con.
Long boat full of people heading to a nearby island.
This bus also took the slow route as it was transportation for locals going between Bangkok and all the towns towards Pattaya and beyond.  That meant we slowly headed south a 5 hour trip that should have only taken about 2.5 if we had got on the right bus.  I was ready to explode from the water I had drank in the morning before boarding the bus.

Pattaya was quite nice.  We stayed in a hotel only 500 meters from the beach but not on the busy section of Pattaya. Also it was away from the red light district so it was quite.  I am not offended by the go go bars or bar girls but I do not need to stay right in the middle of all the action.  I do not remember the name but it was next to the Hard Rock resort.

Once we got settled in the hotel we quickly headed to the beach.  It was great.  The weather was warm, at least for a Canadian, and the beach had only a few other people on it.  We rented some chairs and watched people jet ski, parasail, ride long boats out to some islands, and walk past wearing way too small of swim suits for their not so small body types.  I had my first coconut drink and another few cheap beers.

A bit of a funny disaster happened here.  I rented a jet ski for an hour and was screwing around the bay with my friend when a jet boat passed by.  It left a really nice wake and just had to jump it.  Problem was I did not hit it square and we landed sideways.  We went one and the jet ski the other direction.  By the time we sorted our selves out the jet ski somehow had overturned. It took me ten minutes to right the jet ski and by that time the engine was full of salt water and totally flooded.  It cost me 10000 baht as the mechanic had to pump out the engine and clean it.  Sigh goodbye $300.
