Sea Kayak Tour

My trip to Thailand was based aound a 6 day sea kayak trip with Paddle Asia. As you can see from my other blogs to other countries I like to travel to warm climates in search of tranquil waters where I can sea kayak and snorkel. So I based a trip to Thailand around this.
So basically for 5 day on the island I went out in a longtail boat with a guide and a longtail boat driver and went snorkeling and sea kayaking around. Usually we would head out and go snorkeling for an hour or so and then go for a sea kayak paddle for a couple of hours, meet the boat on the beach with the lunch, enjoy a nice Thai lunch, go snorkeling again then maybe sea kayak to another spot where the boat driver would pick us up and bring us back to Koh Lipe.
I got a lot of hours in snorkeling. The guide says, and it really is true, that the longer you are in the water looking around the better chance you have of seeing cool stuff and I saw some pretty cool fish. The highlights were the spotted eagle ray which came swooping out of nowhere and passed below me, some turtles, a scorpionfish and several lionfish. Lionfish were fairly common but they still are pretty amazing to see even if you usually got to see one every day.
The islands were really nice. They are fairly spread out so it was nice to have a boat to shuttle us around. They are covered with a jungly forest and are fairly steep sided.
Five days of relaxing on the ocean is a great cure for a vacationless summer and the wintertime blues. A nice boat ride across the open ocean with the occasional flying fish skittering across the water is truly blissful.
