Turkey is a Eurasian country that stretches across the Anatolian peninsula in southwest Asia and the Balkan region of southeastern Europe. The region comprising modern Turkey has overseen the birth of major civilizations such as the Byzantine and Ottoman Empires. Because of its strategic location, where two continents meet, Turkey's culture has a unique blend of Eastern and Western tradition, often described as a bridge between the two civilizations. Straddling the Bosphorus, its skyline studded with domes and minarets, İstanbul is one of the truly great romantic cities. Its history tracks back from Byzantium to Constantinople to its place at the head of the Ottoman Empire. Today it hums as Turkey's cultural heart and good-time capital. In this sprawling, mosques that are the most sublime architectural expressions of Islamic piety; and hunt for bargains in the Grand Bazaar.
Solar Eclipse 29 March 2006 Cappadocia

Enough in Istanbul we took overnight bus to Kayseri. The town is within Cappadocia region that can be described as a very strange and unearthly region.Somebody told me 'Star Wars' movie was film bits and pieces on this very strange moon landscape. It does make sense since the movie itself was about the war in solar system. The rugged conical rock atmosphere formed by earthquake thousand years ago.The reason I choose to visit Cappadocia was total solar eclipse passing through half of turkey. On March 29, 2006, a total solar eclipse occured when the new moon moved directly between the sun and the earth. The moon’s shadow fell on the eastern tip of Brazil, sped eastward across the Atlantic, through northern Africa, across the Mediterranean, and into Turkey, where I was in Cappadocia. It was 3 minutes of spookiness.Imagine how surreal it was while standing on top of the rocky moon surface and 3 minutes night during the noon. The animals were noticing something supernatural and unearthly. The dogs were strangely barking.
