Charleston, SC to Wilmington, NC., Battleship North Carolina, Ft. Fisher
I made a big mistake leaving Charleston by selecting the beach route north to Wilmington. It was the day before July 4 and the traffic along the beach was very heavy traveling through Myrtle beach. Found the Lodge and got parked in back in a nice spot. Got luck on the 4th because they were having a barbeque and I was made welcome and invited to eat with them.
Moored in Wilmington is the Battleship North Carolina so, I had to check it out of course. Nice tours of the whole ship from the bridge to the engine rooms. Once again very hot and humid. Toured Fort Fisher which was a Civil War fort protecting the port of Wilmington. Nice restoration on this fort.
The Elks lodge is a nice facility, inexpensive food and friendly folks.
