Bluffton, SC to Wilmington, NC., Ft Fisher
Continuing north after a good visit with my sister, I arrived at the Elks Lodge in Wilmington, North Carolina. On the way north I passed through Myrtle Beach and found that I had driven right into Harley Week. What a traffic mess. Every parking lot plus the roads were loaded with thousands of motorcycles. Looked like they were trying to copy the success of Sturges Harley Week.
While in Wilmington, I visited Fort Fisher which was not much more that some earthen humps where the Confederate forces had placed some heavy cannon to protect the entrance of the harbor. The Union forces pummeled the fort from the sea and quickly won the fort. That cut off the supply of food, ammunition and supplies to the Rebel forces and helped quicken the end of the war.
The balance of my time here was relaxing with several trips to the beach and wetting a line for some fish. As usual, not much luck.
