Today we had our first big excursion, we were going to visit Bodrum in Turkey! I had never been to Turkey before so I was very curious. I also read there is a beautiful castle in Bodrum, and Bodrum (Halikarnassos in Greek) was also the place where the Mausoleum of Halikarnassos was, one of the seven wonders of the world. Around 9 o'clock in the morning we took the ferry to Bodrum, which took about an hour. It was a nice trip and we enjoyed the sun on the deck.
When we arrived at Bodrum we got a tour together with 4 other people. We went to the old windmills, to a amphitheater and to a gold company, which was more of a tourist trap where they wanted to sell us jewelry.. After that we 4 hours free time. We first went to eat at the McDonalds, we were warned not to eat any salads because they use water which can make you sick. So we thought to be sure and eat at McDonalds which is (almost) always okay, and okay it was :D We had a McTurco and a Super Bigmac. Then we went to the castle, which was beautiful, the views, the museum inside, perfect.
After the visit to the castle we went into town, Bodrum is a nice, clean town and has no big hotels or flats, because they are not allowed to build high buildings there. I bought some souvenirs and postcards and around 16:00 we had to get back on the ferry to go to Kos again.
