These pictures were taken recently in my hometown. I'm having a hard time figuring out the development of the icicles in the middle. They have formed going in a different direction than the rest of the ones pictured. I will explain more about these pictures in the future, but for now, let's just say that these pictures are just a small part of the whole big picture. Curious? You will just have to watch for the updates. I'm not sure when, but I will add more photos and a lot more details. For now, maybe someone can explain why the sideways icicles. Help?
As promised, I will expand on this subject! It seems the old above ground water storage tank at the Water Tower Softball Field has sprung a leak or two or three, etc.
I just had to have some pictures (the formations intrigued me), so my husband and I drove to the camera shop (60 miles away) and turned right around for home so I could capture some pictures. It was a bright sunny day, with temps near freezing. Interesting ice formations formed and today one could actually see the water leaking out! I still can't explain the weird icicles that formed in an unusual direction. We haven't had any wind. Enjoy the ice, and who knows what the city will do!
UPDATE - The decision has been made. The old tower is just in too bad of shape to repair. The EPA has given the OK to take the tower out of service. The city will be replacing it over the next few months. Land has been purchased, and designs are being drawn. At this time, the old tower will be drained and taken out of service. The decision to take it down is in the works.
This water tower has served the area for 70 years. It is rather sad visitors will not be greeted by the name of our town on one of the higher landmarks in the area. Progress!!!!!
