My first week in Oz
G'day!
Well I arrived from a rainy Hong Kong last Wednesday to glorious sunshine and checked into the backpackers for a couple of nights initially. The next day it RAINED! I must have brought the weather with me ... I did get out though just to get my bearings but gave up after a couple of hours! Perth is a cool place. The backpacker that I'm staying in is in Northbridge near the city centre so not too bad a walk every day. It's keeping me fit put it that way!
I went up to Kings Park on Friday and had a couple of hours up there. It's beautiful and well worth the walk getting there. I opted to get the train to Freemantle on Saturday and apparently it was 'worth a visit'. Well maybe I missed something as I didn't find anything special there that I hadn't already seen elsewhere.
Didn't appreciate being accosted by the God Squad either on arriving so maybe that's what put the mockers on it! Sunday I got the ferry to Rottnest Island, which is over an hour from Perth. I didn't want to hire a bike and ride around on my own so just found a secluded stretch of beach around Thomsons Bay and enjoyed the weather. Rottnest is absolutely lovely and although I barely saw any of the island, I will try and have another day there before I leave WA.I'm heading north on a 13-day tour to Broome and back tomorrow which takes in the Pinnacles Desert, Hangover Bay (how appropriate for moi), Kalbarri National Park, Coral Bay, Ningaloo Reef and MORE! I'm sure I'll see some amazing places and hopefully meet a few more people.
I'm hoping to head south for a few days on getting back to Perth. Hopefully I can pick-up a lift from a fellow traveller along the way. After that the plan is to head inland to Alice Springs but who knows what the next week or so may bring - things could change, watch this space!
ps again, photos to follow when able
