Spitzkoppe
This is probably my favorite spot location that I have been to in Namibia so far. I used to travel to Namibia 3 or 4 times a year for work, and when driving between Windhoek and Swakopmund, whenever possible, I would make a detour to that unique and special place, this isolated mountain located in the middle of the desert which is also known as the "Namibian Matterhorn".
The detour is approximately 30km (each way) of gravel road and starts just West of Usakos. The summit culminates at 1728m and 700m above the surroundings. It was first climbed in 1946.
I am not sure what is so special about this place, if it is the history, with all the bushman's paintings, or just the way this granitic massif has been eroded, but there is something magical about it...
Now that I live in Australia I miss going to these places. But I am really excited that very soon I will be going back to Namibia, this time on a holiday! I know this is not the best time of the year to go, but hopefully the weather will be fine. Didn't have much choice because I had to use some airmiles that were going to expire, and I can't let this happen...
Anyway here are a few pics from Spitzkoppe and a few from other places in Namibia.
